Skeptics probably expected the Boston Film Festival to run aground after last year. But the Festival (Sept. 12-17) is ba-a-ack, although it will move from AMC Boston Common to the considerably less accessible Landmark Kendall Square Cinema in . . . Cambridge.

The opening night feature is Ed Harris’ “Appaloosa,” a high-powered Western co-starring Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Jeremy Irons and Renee Zellweger. And the closing night is “Flash of Genius” with Greg Kinnear as the inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper (no, really).
