John McCain has pandered to the hard right with Sarah Palin, bolstered his base with red-meat attacks by his surrogates, and now can try to convince the undecideds and independents that he is the thoughtful leader America needs.

Lots of pundits are trying to predict what McCain is going to say in his stump speech tonight. That’s pretty hard to do - you could pull your hair out doing that, and I don’t have much to spare.
