Not so empowering

I agree with George Will (“Barack’s promises right from the funny pages,” Aug. 24) in that Barack Obama and other green pols make unrealistic promises on what green power can do and how fast it can be developed. Nothing wrong with developing electric cars, but as Will says we’ll then need more power plants and power lines to charge them. Obama seems to be against nukes and, of course, coal, so what do we build? Wind is fine too, but its output is unpredictable so we’d need backup plants. So what kind of plants?
We will add 40 million people to the nation by 2050 and how do we serve them? We cannot just conserve our way. We need sensible power sources with all implications considered and not feel-good commercials with pols talking with a windmill spinning in the background. If we are aiming for zero emissions, we might as well go back to the Stone Age.
