Orlando A. DiFranza of Melrose, a retired engineer, died Monday at his home. He was 84.

Born and raised in East Boston, Mr. DiFranza lived in Melrose for 50 years. He was a graduate of Boston Latin High School and Northeastern University, where he earned a degree in engineering.
